Now me (Wendy): Well, in looking at my calendar, I see that the second weekend in February is Valentine's weekend - which isn't a problem for me personally, but I don't know how others will feel. I, also, would prefer a weekend to a weeknight . . . since Saturday is Valentine's Day, what about Sunday the 15th? If we got together fairly early (4.00 or so), we could still have several hours to chat, and be finished early enough for anyone with a longish drive to get back early. And, we can plan a meet-up for sometime in March in addition to this one (assuming enough of us can come on the 15th to make it worth while getting together). Any takers? Message-ID: Okay,here's the deal,and if anyone has suggestions or other ideas,let me know. I've reserved the private room at Beckett's Irish Pub in Berkeley for Sunday,March 14,at 4:30pm. They dont open until 4pm,so I had to make it for this time. I told them there would be at least 10 of us,hopefully more. The only thing that might be a problem is that this is their only private room,and if another large party wants the room at the same time,we will have to share with them,as they couldnt give us the whole room to ourselves for just 10 people...I guess it's a large room. But,the guy told me that it's unlikely that will happen on a Sunday afternoon. I am already gathering surprises for everyone. I had alot of fun at our meeting before and am excited about the next one,I hope everyone can make it! Oh! Did you hear that "Prisoner of Azkaban" will also be playing in IMAX Theatres as well as regular theatres? I had meant to post something about a possible date before someone else got around to it, but I was really busy this week and never managed to do it. It's a very nice place,with a warm,gothic-like atmosphere. The "Red Room" is upstairs in the back,and they had the fireplace lit,it was very cozy(I peeked in on the group that was there,they left the door open). The menu they gave us was a little different than the one on the website,but still good. I had the Cottage Pie and Irish Coffee(very strong) and my friend ordered Fish-n-Chips..they were both excellent. We did have some trouble finding a place to park,but we stumbled upon a parking garage on Kittredge,a short walk from Beckett's. Beckett's is on Shattuck between Kittredge and Bancroft,and the parking garage is on Kittredge,1 block past the Mel's diner on the corner of Shattuck and Kittredge,so it's very close. If you can't find parking,this is probably your best bet. It was $5.00 to park for the whole evening. I was very impressed with this pub. We've had two in recent months, and have one scheduled for April 4th. I think we're going to try and get together once a month, in different locations so the same people don't always have to drive the farthest. We do talk about Harry Potter, and all sorts of other stuff, as well. We haven't done any sewing, but if you're interested in that, I'd recommend you post something here and see if there are others who would want to get together for a sewing party (I might be interested, myself, depending on when and where). I'm not aware of any line parties up here that are already plannedfor PoA, but again, this would be a great place to post if you want to get one together. I'm sure there are people here who'd love to do that. I was going to post a "meet-up" report to this group anyway, so I might as well do it now! :-) On Saturday, several of us got together for a meet-up at Beckett's Irish Pub in Berkeley. We had a bunch of people turn up; I was the last one to arrive, and was surprised (in a good way!) to see so many people there. People came from all over the place - Santa Cruz and San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Rosa and even as far away as Sacramento. Oh - and did I mention Washington, DC? ::grin:: (That was Joywitch, who *says* she was here visiting Amy Z, but I think she really came just for the meet-up). ::grin:: We talked a bit about Potter, and also about scary books and films, and all sorts of other stuff. I brought a bunch of BookCrossings books to release, and set them all free - several were taken by other HP peeps (don't forget to go to the website and make a journal entry please! ::grin::) I did take a picture, which didn't come out too well (it was a bit dark in the bar, and my flash didn't really do the job), but I'll upload it to the photos section here anyway. Our next meet-up is scheduled for Sunday, April 4th, at O'Kane's Irish Pub and Grill in San Ramon, 200 Montgomery Street. I've made the reservation for 3.00. In looking at a Calendar, I'm not sure when I can make it in May, lol. The first weekend I am getting ready for surgery on the 3rd, I doubt I will be up to traveling over the hill by the 8th or 9th (also Mother's Day), I'll be out of town the 15th-16th, and my oldest son's 14th birthday is the 29th (I would be a bad, bad mommy to miss that, I think). The only days I am free in May are the 22nd, 23rd or possibly the 30th, which is memorial day weekend, so many people may have plans that weekend. It sounds like the 8th may work for quit a few people though, so maybe you should go with that. You never know, I may feel up to making my husband drive me over the hill on that day (they tell me I can't drive for 2 weeks, and by the 8th I will probably be stir crazy!) If I can't make it to the May meet up, there is always June, when we will have lots to talk about after June 4th. The Drive-in is always fun, that's where I took my kids last night so they wouldn't bother anyone else. Of course I saw it with Cindy earlier in the day, minus my kids. We also have a british pub called Brittania Arms that would be lots of fun to go to, I've never suggested it before because it is so far for most people to come over here, but the pub is a lot of fun. I'm sorry that Rita, Tim, and Pippin didn't end up getting together! I had a good time Friday night - it was fun (and less stressful, as someone who is very shy around people she doesn't hang out with regularly) with just the three of us, and much easier finding just 3 seats close together (even though we STILL had to split up - I sat one row in front of Rita and Tim). Overall, I liked the movie, but as time goes on, I'm having some issues with bits and pieces - especially them misspelling "Moony". I've been obsessing over that ever since I saw it. That, and the fact that there was no knot for them to press on the willow... and "alohamora" (sp?) was too boring to let Sirius out of the "prison" on top of the tower... and wtf was a PRISON doing up there? I don't know if anyone here is near the Los Angeles area, but about six weeks ago the HP Wizard store online opened a real store on Wilshire Blvd (2717 1/ 2) in Santa Monica. I just found out about it last week and stopped by today. Really well done, the store is called Whimsic Alley and has a huge selection of everythign from all house v-neck sweater, ties, scarves, dishes, toys, book bags, etc. I was impressed that it was so busy there when I went, and I spoke to the owner who said that business was good and that they were planning all sorts of HP-Related events nexts year. He also told me they are getting quidditch sweaters for all houses, as well as high-quality adult size robes for all houses (lined with the colors like in the third movie). So, if you live in Los Angeles county it is definately worth the visit. I am going to try to stop by frequently to show some support.
