I suggest that we let people join without having to ask permission (so
many Y!groups don't allow people to read posts unless they are
members, and I can't remember whether this group is one of them, but
we don't post deeply personal and private things here, so let the
world read -- maybe the world wants the driving directions to the
active Northern (Bay Area) Californians' pub night). But their first
post has to be approved by the moderator before it is posted, and
after that they can post directly. If the new member is a spambot, its
first post will be easily recognized as spam and they can be banned
immediately.
