Well, not seeing the context of this, I can't say for sure BUT my guess would be (Oct 1999 was after PoA but before GoF) that she was referring to GoF specifically. She did say in another interview that I saw that Harry would date neither Hermione nor Ginny in GoF but that he was only 14 & had plenty of time to change his mind. She answered all sorts of interview questions about *who* he would date in GoF as you may recall -- once she let it out of the bag that he & the others would discover the opposite sex, it became a favorite pre-GoF interview question. And, of course, her answers led all of us to conclude that it would be Cho. And, yes . . . Cho was his first crush but it remains to be seen whether they'll actually date. In any case, I guess most H/H fans are resigned to Ron & Hermione dating in the canon -- most of us just don't think it will last. Paul -- if you'll send me a link to the full text of that interview though, I'll be happy to update that FAQ as needed. Is there more to it than that? I assume the whole interview was concerned with GoF but maybe I'm off-base in that assumption. Penny -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... But it was just a 2 1/2 week vacation. The rest of the time has just been spent waiting for my body to be reunited with my brain cells. I think that is beginning to happen now. That jet lag has quite a kick. I had an almost Potter-free vacation . . . unless that apparition in the castle tower was one of the Hogwarts ghosts. Luckily I wasn't one of the people who saw it . . . and I only heard about the fresh scratches that appeared on a stone slab overnight; I didn't actually investigate them. What you don't know or think about can't hurt you, right? I would like to thank Neil for the wonderful weather he supplied while we were in London. Can't say the same for Scotland. But hey it was October in Scotland and we were all prepared for it. And we did develop that 'only one door of the minivan could be open at a time' rule which helped prevent the doors, people, and/or vehicle from disappearing into the gale force winds. Now that I'm home, it is time to go back to work and I just wanted to let you know that I'm back on the job for Lupin and Dumbledore. I began writing the FAQ on Lupin today. I remember there being talk about a stopping point for the messages with the rest being part of the maintenance. Was there ever an agreed upon spot to stop or is everyone just doing their own thing? Was there ever an agreed upon spot to stop or is > everyone just doing their own thing? I don't think we ever came up with an agreed cut-off point. I'm taking mine out pretty much current. I'm just using the egroups search feature, which is working reasonably well. It is hard to figure out how to search out the relevant messages most efficiently. I found with Hermione that I must just go through all thousands of them in order to figure out what is relevant for the character sketch. Couldn't think of any other way to search it out. I can usually write it off as irrelevant or not in less than 10 seconds so . . . Speaking of the FAQs gang, I was hoping we could get an update from everyone. Where you're at, when you think you might be done (realistically), etc. So, in the spirit of updates -- 1. JKR -- done & up to-date 2. Potential Romantic Pairings -- done & only in need of a minor addition or 2. Revised in 30 minutes or less. 3. Fanfic -- Largely done. I have some fanfic recommendations & summaries forwarded by Ebony that need to get worked in, but this is 30 minutes or less sort of revision work. 4. Adult v. Children's Lit -- Done & up-to-date. 5. Religion & HP -- Done & up-to-date 6. Wizarding World -- Govt -- done & up-to-date 7. Hermione -- have gone through 75% of the messages; have gone through SS & CoS for quotes, descriptions, thoughts. Still need to finish going through messages & going through PoA & GoF. Then, I must write it up into a coherent whole. :--) Estimated time to complete: several days of sporadic work. Can complete by mid-December. 8. Hogwarts -- have gone through SS & CoS. Need to go through the messages (all) & PoA & GoF. Estimated time to complete: can also complete by mid-December possibly. 9. Mysteries & Inconsistencies -- no work done at this point. Will shoot for being done by Christmas. Believe me, I fully understand that this project has taken longer than any of us expected, but could we get some general updates from everyone? :--) Thanks. We also especially need to hear from Melanie regarding her timeframe for getting everything changed over to HTML & uploaded to a website. If we have all or most all of the FAQs finished by January 1st, how much time will it take you to get them uploaded to the web Melanie? The other monkey wrench: I will plan on summarizing that last little grouping of Yahoo messages that Anna didn't do (it was toward the very end of our Yahoo existence & may not contain much of substance since I think many of the messages were complaints about Yahoo). I will try to get this done in the next few weeks unless someone else wants to volunteer to do it. I can't remember the #s off the top of my head but can find them easily enough if anyone's interested. I find it annoying to try and use the search feature - especially on the Voldemort FAQ where his name is commonly mis-spelt. At the moment I am going through the messages and finding those on Harry. I then copy these into a document (very long in some cases) and then print this and work from there. I find it very difficult to work straight onto the computer and much prefer to work with the 'old fashioned' pen and paper. Consequently I also find I can work away from my computer - which is useful as I get terrible migraines if I am in front of the screen for too long! I will then make them up to date, which should not take too long. Predictions for books 5, 6 & 7 - I am finding this very hard. It is done up to message 3500 on E-groups but I am unsure what should and should not be included. Harry - started going through the messages a week ago - 40% of the way through. On current rate of progress I hope to have finished going through the messages in the next two weeks. Heading for a before Christmas finish on the FAQ. As I am not doing the character summaries for any of the characters I am doing FAQ's on I cannot really justify the time for going through the books and basing some of the FAQ on information in them (unless I can have about another 6 months of time to work on them). I intend to use the messages as a framework and only refer to the book in instances when the books answer the question / debate raised. The major problem I have at the moment is that either I will have no computer access, or will be back to paying large sums of money for my access from 2nd December (end of term). I have yet to hear back from my accommodation people as to whether I can stay up for some of the vacation or not (I have quite a few reasons for wishing to stay in Oxford for a bit longer - academic work being a major one) - if I am able to stay for some of the vacation then I will have plenty of opportunity to finish them at the beginning of December. If not then I will upload what I have done before I go home and then finish off in January. Where you're at, when you think you might be done > (realistically), etc. Okay.... I've gone through all the old Yahoo messages (except for Wizarding World: General) and have sorted the relevant eGroups messages into files for each FAQ (I get the posts by e-mail). I'm planning to put a link to Steve's Lexicon in most of the FAQs. Mike Goat offered to proof-read my FAQs (when I've actually finished any of them!). The e-mailed eGroups messages don't include the message board #, so I am referring to thread names and dates at the moment. Will probably have to identify the # of the start of each thread as a better reference. ****Here is the status on the FAQs themselves: **McGonagall - the FAQ is nearly done (how many times have I said that?); checking some "women in HP" threads for additional material. **Quidditch - I need to check the eGroups stuff for additional material, but the FAQ is pretty much there. Ebony may still want to look at it as previously agreed unless she's off the scene completely until next year. **Spells and Charms - I have all the messages sorted and I'm currently sectioning into sub-files for Priori Incantatem, Imperius curse, etc. Trying to avoid duplicating Mysteries & Inconsistencies here and so concentrating on the spells etc themselves. **Magical Devices - looking through eGroups stuff and have separate files now for things like Marauder's Map, Mirror of Erised. There are quite a few 'devices' that we haven't really discussed, so there's not too much. Note on Mysteries/Inconsistencies, above, applies here too. **Character Accents - I'm part way through writing the FAQ. I'll probably complete it as planned, but I had noted Penny's suggestion, a while back, that people incorporate into character summaries. **Ron Weasley - finished going through Yahoo messages, and now looking at a couple of recent 'Ron' threads before writing it up. **Casting/Movie - I've started writing notes on the real film cast members and I've been through most of the Yahoo 'casting suggestions' messages (I got really bored during that little task). I need to write up the more detailed discussions we've had on the film/cast/director and look at the movie locations stuff. I'm also thinking of including something about actor accents here (there was a lot of stuff about English vs American actors, for example). Jim will be proof-reading the finished item. **Mysteries/Inconsistencies CoS - Still identifying content. Will then discuss with you Penny. **Snape. I have all the messages grouped, but I'm not much further at present. I have the Yahoo stuff under headings like "Snape and the DADA job", "Snape loved Lily", "Snape's task" but some of the categories overlap, obviously. I have a huge directory of Snape-related discussion from eGroups, but there seems to be a lot of repetition, so it's a matter of distilling it all into something readable. **Wizarding World: general. Still assessing what needs to go in here. Stuff on magic vs muggle world; general concepts. Summary: The first two on my list above should be done by this weekend and the first six by end of November. For different reasons, 'Casting/Movie' and 'Snape' are a bit more involved than the others, so I'll spend more time on those in early December. With the 'Wizarding World' and 'CoS' it's more a question of deciding what goes into them - I don't think there will be too much in either of them, so I'll aim to finish those by third week of December. I've just started going through the egroups messages. Dumbledore: I have only just begun (wasn't that a song title). Time will be at a premium from now until Christmas but I am working on them a little every day. And the company I work at shuts down between Christmas and New Years so I will have that time (unless we get called in because the systems implementations which are supposed to happen Thanksgiving weekend don't).
