Our Task with the FAQs

Hi
<<<I'm still ploughing through the messages, but I've experienced a similar
problem of scant coverage of some of my FAQ topics. It seems some of the
most interesting characters and topics have not been discussed much in the
group.
I see our job as summarising some of the very original (and the not so
great) thoughts of our members on various topics and putting in a bit of
general background. We are aiming to avoid repeat posts on topics such as
'gleam in Dumbledore's eye' and 'Priori Incantatem' (eeek - 'Priori
Incantatem is a spell, I've just realised).>>>>
Yes, that's exactly what I think we should be doing -- summarizing what's
been said (including the off-the-wall theories) and adding in a general
framework. I like what Simon says he's doing with the Character FAQs --
leading off with a general description and some quotes before heading into
the things the Club has discussed about that person. I haven't started
Hermione yet, but that seems a good approach.
I think we're aiming to avoid repeat posts (by directing newbies to the FAQs
straight away) and I think our other goal is to stimulate deeper discussions
by providing the summaries of what has already been covered. People will
presumably read the FAQs and think about the topics more in-depth.
I think my hardest FAQ may be the Hogwarts FAQ --- so much discussion about
student population figures and why the teachers are single, celibate or what
have you. <g> I don't envy Neil the task of the Snape FAQ, which seems to
me to be one of the hardest FAQs to create based on the wide diverging
discussions.
Penny
