Add in Peter Pettigrew (and Draco Malfoy (Malfoy Family) under Characters. 2. Remove Similarities between Potters & Voldemort 3. Under World of HP, add "British Education System"; delete Houses of Hogwarts as that is included under the Hogwarts FAQ Then, just upload most recent version of Fanfiction & Weasley Family and we'll be caught up at present. I had some thoughts about FAQs maintenance this morning. I know I do not have the time to maintain all 9 of the FAQs that I wrote, and I'm sure other FAQ'ers feel the same. My thought would be to hand-choose some people to approach about maintaining specific FAQs before opening it up to the group as a whole for volunteers. Here are my thoughts about my own FAQs -- 1. JKR -- This one probably won't require much maintenance since it's mainly biographical info on Jo, but I'd just as soon not worry with it myself. I have no real thoughts on who might be willing to maintain/update this one now & again. Thoughts? 2. Hogwarts -- This will require fairly extensive updating and seems likely to be one that will need to be monitored for facts given in JKR chats & such. I nominate Steve V to maintain this one if he's willing (given that similar maintenance will be done on his Lexicon site on this topic). 3. Mysteries & Inconsistencies -- This is a big project! I am constantly shifting messages into my FAQs-Mysteries folder as people discover more & more flints, mysteries, etc. I nominate Joywitch, Amy Z or David as potential candidates to keep up with this one. Are you game, Amy or shall I approach Joywitch? 4. Potential Romance Pairings -- I'll keep this one. I'm sure you're all relieved (and shocked). 5. Government -- Not much required so I don't mind keeping this one too. 6. Hermione -- I'm definitely keeping this one!! Near & dear to my heart ... 7. Universal Appeal of HP -- I'll keep this one too as I am possibly the only person who really cares much about it. 8. Religion & HP -- Do I recall that Mike expressed an interest in possibly maintaining/updating this one? 9. Fanfiction -- I am not as involved in the fanfic world at present as others are so I nominate Ebony, Heidi and/or Carole as candidates to keep up with this one. Thoughts ladies? Any takers? Neil, if I were you, I'd start buttering up Amanda for taking on maintenance of that Snape FAQ. Okay, that's it for now. I will *not* post another chapter of fanfiction until you have what I've promised... sorry it's taken me so long. And please, edit away... I don't think it'll be the best synthesis I've ever done 2) Heidi and I will update the Fanfiction FAQ together... I'll try to make some time to do that before I leave next weekend... the problem is that I *have* the original copy of the Fanfiction FAQ on my home computer (the one you sent this fall, Penny). FYI--I will be offline from Friday 8/10 until either Monday 8/13 or Tuesday 8/14. I plan to finish the FAQ before the 20th, because after 8/27 I will not have time to do very much at all (besides fanfic if I can... and even that's a hope, wish, and a prayer!) until Christmas vacation. I would be happy to do this, although I don't read NEARLY all the posts on HP4GU anymore, due to lack of time and more often than not a lack of interesting posts to read. No offense, but there have been some pretty lean times for someone with my interest areas lately. That is, until we hit the time line stuff. Yeehaw! Just to update you all: As Lupin said, I picked a particularly bad time to get sick. I found myself so utterly exhausted in the last couple of days that I literally couldn't do a thing. I slept a solid eleven hours last night and I'm MUCH better today, so I will plan to do some FAQ work this evening (I spent the day out and about with my wife, sort of a date-cum-errands kind of thing). Sorry to not get all the changes and updates done quite as quickly as you'd have liked, Penny, but I'll be back on it soon. Now I'm going to go in the backyard with something cold to drink and a good book and my birds and flowers and butterflies and relax. It's a mere 94 degrees here and humid as can be. That, I think, is why God invented beer. fondly Steve From neilward at dircon.co.uk Wed Aug 1 23:56:45 2001 From: neilward at dircon.co.uk (Neil Ward) Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 00:56:45 +0100 Subject: McGonagall FAQ - Yay: a draft uploaded! It's a word document, and I've formatted in the fonts Steve suggested (but with refs as 10pt Arial). I haven't attempted to HTML-ise it, but let me know if there's anything else I can do to it, formatting-wise. It's in the FAQ folder of this club. Content-wise, there is some stuff that could come out I guess, and I'd like to make the refs into direct links at some point...and maybe add some more quotes. Anyway, it would be handy if someone could cast an eye over it before it goes live... I don't know why I've taken so long to do this. Obviously, I haven't been working on it for a *whole* year, but I did leave it 95% completed for ages. Penny managed to conceive and give birth to a child in that time... Quidditch next. Hmmm. This very day I set up my very first very own website which offers my collection of HP filks. http://home.att.net/~coriolan/hpfilks.htm I have a filk titled "Pettigrew" to the familiar tune of Peggy Sue at http://home.att.net/~coriolan/azkaban.htm#Pettigrew Pettigrew figures in The Riddle Manor House and I Just Can't Wait to be Cloned from The Goblet of Fire http://home.att.net/~coriolan/gofire.htm Then I have a dialogue between Pettigrew and Voldy (this is a personal favorite, though I keep changing the lyrics) set to a somewhat obscure Cole Porter tune. (the original is, as you may surmise, between two lovers) http://home.att.net/~coriolan/voldemort.htm#You're Bad for Me Do you like The Way We Gnaw? I left it off the site, but heck, if it has even a single fan out there, I'll post it. I look forward to seeing your Pettigrew FAQ. The one drawback to my cultural ignorance (geez ... you reckon there's another one?) is not knowing most of the songs you people filk. I always have a blast when I know the tune, but so far that's happened a grand total of three times. I could easily make the name of the editor into an email link, so anyone clicking on it would open up a blank email with that person's address filled in. I think I'd like each editor to specifically give me the address they want that linked to and I won't link any that I don't hear from that it's okay. However, as I stated before, if the comments are typos, they should go to me. I will do that kind of editing (since I have to do ALL the editing as it now stands) so I will just field those notes and edit when I get a chance. That's what I do with the Lexicon now. However, I would rather not have to upload entirely new versions of the FAQs if possible. It would honestly be a lot easier just to type in new passages or do edits in the existing document. So if you decide that something needs to be changed, just send me the updated paragraphs and let me know where to place them. UPDATE: The index page is now correct, I think. I still need to upload a couple of pages, which I have downloaded from the files section. I will work on the translation to HTML and get them online ASAP. Let's just take the Hermione FAQ for example. Let's say that I needed to not only add in sentences but basically reword things intermittently throughout the document to take into account someone's new thoughts. Let's say I also needed to add in new footnotes (and update existing footnotes) -- is it still the case that you want me to just type those changes up & send them to you, only to have you retype them yet again? I admit I know nothing about HTML, but it seems to me it would be easier to have step-by-step instructions that even the uninitiated FAQ maintenance crew members could follow. Obviously, I want to do the easiest thing possible for everyone. But, I'm afraid you might come to hate me, Steve! When I'm revising a document, I tend to revise a fair bit of phrasing as I'm going along -- or I see things that should really be moved around a bit. I can try to curb this tendency .... but is there no way to let us actually do the edits ourselves? I'm a semi-professional writer, have been an editor in some form or fashion for nearly 15 years and might ...cough ... have some control issues with documents. :--) > When they are live, do we send an ADMIN message with an > announcement?
