From vderark at bccs.org Fri May 18 17:35:38 2001 From: vderark at bccs.org (Steve Vander Ark) Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 17:35:38 -0000 Subject: FAQ information Message-ID: <9e3mha+k2re@eGroups.com> Now that summer is here and I am organizing my projects (which DON'T have to be school or theatre related), I am wondering how the FAQ project is to be handled. I will do one of three things: 1) create all the pages and set up the site on the same server that handles my website 2) create all the pages and upload them to another server if we have one 3) not do anything at all if this has been assigned elsewhere during my absence. If you want me to create the pages, I can have them done over the next three weeks and the site up and running at that time. I have redesigned the page to make translation from your original text files a lot easier, so making the pages will be a fairly quick process. The more linking we want to include, however, the longer each page will take, but the basic site can be up and operational in three weeks. Please let me know what you want me to do. Like I said, I am organizing my projects for summer work and I would like to get this one on top of the priority list. As far as #2, your server seems zippy. You probably don't even have a limit on your server. (Plus, you have a nifty search mechanism already set up.) If we do go with your server, will the URL be associated with the Lexicon? (The only reason I ask, is I wasn't sure if you wanted people to confuse the two items. Or perhaps that's what we want. I, personally, consider the Lexicon and the HPFGU FAQ two separate "products" if you will.") I have no problem with not continuing on the web-site set up process. (The HTML conversion is the least of the troubles I come to realize.) I'll send you a link to the ideas I've produced. But if you want to create a sort of brand image, my color scheme certainly won't work. I didn't go with the Lexicon image. Let me know what kind, if any, assistance I can provide. I will only have just a day job until August when I'll start up school for my final semester. Paul p.s. I'll privately send Steve the link to my effort. I'd rather not clean (the language on) up my test page. At long last .... Thanks to Steve for not forgetting about us and for making us one of his summer priorities. I think it makes sense for Steve & Paul to work together as needed. I don't really know what's involved though; maybe it's a one-man job more or less. But, I am sure Paul is willing to help out as he can. My FAQs are all updated through the end of April. I will try to make time this week to read everyone else's FAQ drafts that have been uploaded. As for location, I don't care all that much. If we could eventually have a website with the domain name that Heidi secured for us and we wanted to have a link to the FAQs resolve to Steve's page, that would be great. I do think it makes sense for the URL to be different from the Lexicon if that's possible. I agree with Paul that the Lexicon is a separate "product" or resource than the FAQs. They are complementary though, and it might be handy for them to be accessible through the same basic website. Not sure if I've made any sense or added anything to the discussions, but I did want to at least voice my hearty thanks to Steve & Paul for moving forward with this project!!! Penny
