Ah!  I thought MS Works included a version of it.  

This is what you can do, then.

Open up a word processor document. Create a table with five columns:
Number, Topic, Topic, Topic, Comments.  Fill in that table with your
cataloging.  It can easily be transferred to Excel later on.

Does that work?
