Have you tried downloading them to your hard drive, and then right 
clicking, selecting the "open with" option, and then selecting Excel? 
That worked for me.

If this fails for a lot of people,  I can convert her spreadsheets to 
the current Excel version today at work (Microsoft gods willing).
