I second this idea.  In fact, if we haven't yet done so, I think we 
owe everyone who has expressed an interest in joining a brief "Thanks 
for your interest, we're deciding whether to expand the group right 
now" response so that they don't feel as if we've been ignoring 
them.  I'd be happy to send such a response if others agree.
