From editor at texas.net Sun Apr 1 03:34:03 2001 From: editor at texas.net (Amanda Lewanski) Date: Sat, 31 Mar 2001 21:34:03 -0600 Subject: Extension Message-ID: <3AC6A1AB.EC45B879@texas.net> Oh ye well-intentioned but late people! Like most of us, it has suddenly dawned on me that March is over and tomorrow is April 1st. If you, like two of you who shall remain nameless, have suddenly realized they haven't finished their pages and need an extension, okay. I have pages from five people so far--Jennifer Piersol, Joy Welan, Peg Kerr, Parker Nesbit (who now, I'm sorry Parker, looks like Buzz Lightyear in a hat and apron in my mental image), and the person who does the membership cards (who didn't sign it, so I have no idea what name to write on the cartoons she enclosed--TELL ME WHO YOU ARE). Susan, where are you? Heidi? I note that you have little ones and are probably just as "where did the time go" as I am, but are you sending anything? I'd like to assemble this and put it in the mail to Penny no later than April 6 or 7. Can those who are intending to send something, and don't have it done yet, sound off so I'll have an idea? Thanks, Amanda From yael_pou at hotmail.com Sun Apr 1 08:06:06 2001 From: yael_pou at hotmail.com (yael oren) Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2001 10:06:06 +0200 Subject: [HP4GU-OTEvents] Extension References: <3AC6A1AB.EC45B879@texas.net> Message-ID: I have pages from five people so far--Jennifer Piersol, Joy Welan, Peg Kerr, Parker Nesbit (who now, I'm sorry Parker, looks like Buzz Lightyear in a hat and apron in my mental image), and the person who does the membership cards (who didn't sign it, so I have no idea what name to write on the cartoons she enclosed--TELL ME WHO YOU ARE). When are you wanting to definitely decide? We do have a few more days to decide - we don't want to send something until after the baby is born. Anyone with ideas, please send them to the list! But regarding pacifiers/teethers/binkies - I don't like getting those as presents, except maybe as an add-on, because a lot of parents (like me) don't want to use them for various reasons, and if Penny plans to nurse, she absolutely shouldn't be planning on using binkies any time before August, because it can cause baby to become confused. I did have another thought - it's not something that's online, but...the best present Harrison recieved was a knit blanket - knitted into the blanket (i.e. not embroidered) is the baby's name, birthdate, time, size, poundage, etc., and there are designs knitted into it as well - I do believe they have a starry design - it's $40, so we could also get the mobile and send both as a set. Yup. Hope she can and does breastfeed, too--good for the kids and they're not sick as much. Like it! This is a dumb question, but is it machine-washable? Ravel-proof? Chewing-friendly? [Dumb because you have a son and will know to look for these, but I hadda ask.] I saw the Hagrid, Fluffy, Norbert, and Flat Hedwig toys at the Warner Brothers store today. They aren't real breathtaking, and are not recommended for under 3 (except the flat Hedwig, which isn't a stuffed owl so much as a big owl-shaped pillow). BUT, I saw a little Gund dragon in a toy store which was JUST adorable and cost about $16. Sooo, I think we should do the blanket if it's baby-worthy, and a little other. I could go for the mobile, but the Gund dragon is real cute, too. I'll see if I can't find a pic of it someplace at an e-store. --Amanda -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Yeah, but the little dragon I saw won't spill little choking hazards if his structural integrity is violated.....which has happened to much-loved beanies on occasion. I'm impressed. Here are the specs for the book. The book has about 33 pages (I'm counting my handwritten stuff, that I haven't actually written yet, that I estimate will be 2 pages). It contains words of experience, words of inexperience, tips, cartoons, poetry, prose, book excerpts, sketches, Penny's name in Hebrew, and a clipping from the April 15th edition of the Daily Prophet. The contributors come from four countries on three continents (if Goat sends his pages along to Penny later, it'll be five countries). The title, which due to time constraints I could not put up for a vote, is "Care of Magical Creatures, Volume 15: Babies." There's a cutaway to the next page, showing the HP4GU logo (the hat one) tilted a little sideways with a little hat peeking out from underneath. On the first page, next to the logo, it saith: Being a compendium of advice, wisdom, anecdotes, humor, and creativity from sundry listfolk of Harry Potter for Grownups, tendered with much love and good wishes to listmom (soon-to-be Real Mom) Penny Linsenmayer! When I get it all finished--I haven't bound it yet--I'll lay it on my scanner so you can see it. Yes? You guys did soooo good! In addition to the book, I'm taking her an April 15th edition of the Daily Prophet, membership cards for herself and the baby, and a Golden Snitch pin will adorn the bow. I applaud you! And I hope to deliver it to Penny tomorrow--pictures will be taken. --Amanda From neilward at dircon.co.uk Sun Apr 8 05:16:11 2001 From: neilward at dircon.co.uk (Neil Ward) Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2001 06:16:11 +0100 Subject: [HP4GU-OTEvents] Book Specs References: <3ACFA4AB.62C6DDA6@texas.net> Message-ID: <003601c0bfeb$1c191700$893670c2@c5s910j> Amanda said: <> I'm positive there was no need to vote, Amanda, because that title is perfect! In fact, everything you described sounds wonderful. The Sorting Hat logo was the eventual winner of the logo competition, so it is now the official logo of the group (actually, we didn't need a crystal ball for that...) I'm sure Penny will adore and treasure this book. << I applaud you! And I hope to deliver it to Penny tomorrow--pictures will be taken.>> I applaud you too. I know you're both in Texas, but it hadn't occurred to me (derrrr!!!) that you would be delivering this thing personally; that will make it even more of a surprise. I guess I'm right, though, in thinking you won't be dressing up as Hedwig and singing the Hogwarts School Song on her doostep ... or will you? Thanks for realising this magical project, Amanda, and best of luck with the delivery! Looking forward to the photos. I put a picture of the cover in the Files of this group, and should probably put it over on Chatter, too, since a couple contributors aren't on here. And no, she's not had the baby yet, and judging from the frequency of her posting, is getting frantic to pass the time.
