FictionAlley presents: The Dark Arts Summertime House Cup Challenge

A challenge (to give the definition from subreality.com) is a kind 
of game played in writing circles -- one person says "Hey, I dare 
you to write about [X]!" and anyone who likes the idea responds with 
a story about it. [X] can be a character, a particular set of 
characters, a crossover, a situation, an event, or even a set of 
funny lines or objects that must be included within the body of the 
story.

A challenge must be interesting, unusual, and original - that is, 
what we're asking you to do must be interesting, unusual and 
original. Your responses to the challenge can be whatever your muse 
inspires you to write, as long as it complies with the Challenge 
Rules. 

And the rules for the TDA challenge are...

1. The fic must meet FA's <a 
href="http://www.fictionalley.org/submission.html">grammar and 
spelling requirements.</a>

2. The submission cannot be more than 5000 words or less 
than 500 words.

3. The submission must be in either .txt or html format, and must 
include the following information:
Author Name: 
Author Email:
User Name on FA's Review Boards and FAPark:

4. The fic must be submitted to the correct email address by 
midnight, GMT, on July 31 (yes, we know it;'s Harry & JKR's 
birthdays, but your fic doesn't have to have anything to do with 
that (it's up to you). The fic cannot be submitted using the 
Submission Form. The address is:

5. So... now the moment you've been waiting for...

The TDA Challenge

In 2001, JKR was asked:
If you could travel to Hogwarts for an hour, what would you do 
there? 

She answered:
Go straight into a certain room, mentioned in book four which has 
certain magical properties Harry hasn't discovered yet! 

This challenge is: write a fic that includes the following: 
That certain room
Those certain properties
Something dark 
Something used in traveling

ALL submissions will be uploaded into a special section of 
FictionAlley, and they should not be submitted to any of the houses 
until the end of all four challenges - even then, we really would 
much prefer it if they weren't submitted to any of the houses at 
all, but we're not going to bar it completely.
