If you're interested please go to http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=at_hogwarts . There is a list of characters still available, backstory for the game, rules, information on what and how to post, and instructions on how to apply. A fellow HP fan from the Harry Potter UK forums has started her own role-playing website. It is nicely set up, but brand new and has few members. Worse, only 3 of us post with any regularity! It is hard to role play new conversations with such limited characters! ;) The site is: http://wdragonsden.proboards21.com/index.cgi She calls it "Weasley's Dragon Den". It has been fun so far, but could really use more activity if there is anyone who likes role playing. Because membership is so small, there are lots of great opportunities for good characters and imaginative discussion. Just thought I'd give her a plug, if allowed. Thanks! X-Original-Yahoo-Groups-Redacted-From: "Hebby Elf" X-Original-Yahoo-Groups-Redacted-X-Sender: hebrideanblack at ... X-Original-Yahoo-Groups-Redacted-Return-Path: We have a long-standing rule in HPFGU of not discussing list policy on the public lists. We've asked this of our members for a variety of reasons, and the lack of onlist policy debates has been appreciated by many members. However, we have also had feedback from some of you that you would like, at times, to be able to discuss list policy in an open forum, rather than simply sending messages to the -Owner address. The List Admin Team has also found the current system to be less than satisfactory, so we have come up with a new way for list members and list admnistration to come together and discuss matters of list policy in a friendly and constructive manner. We have created a new list, called HPFGU-Feedback. It is a forum for members of the HPFGU lists to comment, question, suggest, and discuss matters of list administration with each other and members of the List Admin Team. As this is a totally new feedback system, we are going to run it for a one-month trial period, from 20 November, to 19 December, 2003. To join, please go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HPFGU-Feedback/ . If you wish to participate, please make sure to read the messages that are sent to your e-mail address upon subscribing to the list, as all members are required to send an acknowledgement that they have read, and agree to follow, the list's Ground Rules before taking part in discussion. We look forward to hearing what you have to say! :-) Hebby Elf For the List Admin Team From eliasheldon at eliasheldon.yahoo.invalid Fri Nov 21 04:12:30 2003 From: eliasheldon at eliasheldon.yahoo.invalid (Elia Sheldon) Date: Thu, 20 Nov 2003 20:12:30 -0800 (PST) Subject: Lumos Dissendium Site Updates - 11/20/03 Message-ID: <20031121041230.17039.qmail@...> Greetings all, X-Original-Yahoo-Groups-Redacted-From: Elia Sheldon X-Original-Yahoo-Groups-Redacted-X-Sender: eliasheldon at ... Visit the site at: http://www.lumosdissendium.org/ Lumos Dissendium is FictionAlley's section for tips and tricks on writing and other fandom activity. It's a good place to start for the new member of fandom - and also a good place to visit occasionally, in order to make sure you're still in the loop! Here are the changes to the site: 1. Added new column, "The Grammar Maven" by March The Grammar Maven's goal is to help her readers use the English language correctly. In this column, she will be posting her thoughts about the state of the English language in fanfic, and what can be done to improve it. Her column will focus around topics such as: - how to make your conjuctions function - expressing yourself in a way that would make your English teacher proud - nitpicky grammar points that will make you look really smart if you don't miss them - how to avoid embarassing mistakes in word usage This column is a must-read for fanfic writers and beta readers alike. 2. Updated list of contributors at the bottom of the main page, and removed the query for a Grammar Maven. We found one! Enjoy the updated site, and stay tuned for more. (HPEF) -sponsored Nimbus ? 2003: A Harry Potter Symposium, will commence on October 6, 2005 in Salem, Massachusetts. "We chose a place where our attendees could reflect on the recurring themes of ambiguity, choice, darkness, and tolerance as expressed in the Harry Potter books, "says Amy Tenbrink, one of the three lead event planners for The Witching Hour team. "Salem is a progressive town that has embraced a controversial past, and has drawn strength from it." Indeed, as J.K. Rowling has said, "I knew [the books] would get darker. The story is about a world that's getting darker." Programming includes a full slate of academic presentations, panels and workshops, as well as Quidditch, music, and a fall festival event. Conference organizers, whose professional lives correspond with the roles they are undertaking for The Witching Hour, are projecting hundreds of attendees, as well as many additional visitors to the related installations and exhibitions around town. Public Relations Chair Dionne Williford is optimistic about the event. "There was a tremendous amount of interest generated by Nimbus ? 2003, and we're certain that once people see what an outstanding conference we have planned, they'll decide to come learn with us, play with us, and stay for a spell." HPEF is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to provide educational symposia on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels for fans, as well as scholars of the novels. HPEF's first event, Nimbus ? 2003, took place in Orlando, Florida July 17 - 20, 2003; six hundred attendees enjoyed presentations by over eighty speakers, including Judith Krug, director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom at the American Library Association. For further information, please visit The Witching Hour's yahoogroup at www.yahoogroups.com/group/witchinghour or its soon-to-be-up website at www.witchinghour.org (mirrored at www.hp2005.org). This symposium is an unofficial event, and is not endorsed by Warner Bros., the Harry Potter book publishers or J.K. Rowling and her representatives.
