For those of you who expressed interest based on our purple flyers at
Lumos and "teaser" Web page, I am thrilled to announce that the
official site and online registration for Enlightening 2007 (E7), the
first-ever Harry Potter Camp for Families, is now open to the public
at http://Enlightening2007.org.
E7 is an immersive, interactive fantasy event for families who love
Harry Potter and will coincide with the release of the film Harry
Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Co-sponsored by the University of
Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, the four-day event will
take advantage of Penn's gothic campus to recreate Hogwarts on July
12-15, 2007.
Families will be sorted into four Houses and compete to earn points
in classes and games -- including a Tri-Wizard Tournament, Quidditch,
and the ultimate Harry Potter trivia contest -- to win the prized
House Cup. On the opening night of Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix, families attend an exclusive red-carpet movie premiere event
that includes interviews, the E7 podcast, and discussion sessions
after the film.
In addition to family activities, E7 offers age-specific programming:
** Kids (ages 5-8) build their confidence and life science skills
in workshops that focus on taking care of the world around us -- both
magical and muggle.
** Tweens (ages 9-12) take Hogwarts-style classes and learn
scientific methods and deductive reasoning to solve real mysteries
over the four days.
** Teens (ages 13-17) stay on campus in a dorm exclusively for
them, gather in common rooms for social hours, and join in
programming to produce a live podcast of the premiere event, short
original film, improvisational comedy sketch, a cappella concert,
design for a new magical school, fanfiction, or fanart.
** Adults choose from a variety of interactive seminars and round
tables -- featuring experts on parenting and the Harry Potter
literature -- and take optional field trips to see Philadelphia's
rich historical landscape. (We even have Harry Potter-themed child
care available for the "under 5" family members during formal
programming.)
The E7 registration fee starts at $275 per person and includes all
formal and informal programming (except the film premiere and
optional field trips) as well as the Opening and Closing Feasts.
Lodging options range from on-campus dorms to family suites in on-
campus hotels.
