It's up! What I did on my summer vacation. Or Spring break, anyway. I've been off for the past two weeks working on the scheduled revision to the Potterverse essay collection. I needed all two weeks for it too. This is one of the most comprehensive revisions ever. Lots of little tweaks and shifts, even if not a lot of really big changes like the ones that have been rolled into the incremental revisions since last December. It's probably the last such general revision as well. I will probably end up with a few more incremental revisions to the point that DHs comes out. But after that I'm freezing it in its current state until at least Halloween. After that, if there are developments that I want to have a forum for, I think I'll build them a new page. http://www.redhen-publications.com/Potterverse.html From victoria at breeden_victoria.yahoo.invalid Tue May 1 17:54:37 2007 From: victoria at breeden_victoria.yahoo.invalid (Vicki) Date: Tue, 01 May 2007 17:54:37 -0000 Subject: Enlightening 2007s PremiereFest Opening to the Public Message-ID: Enlightening 2007 (E7) will release a limited number of tickets to the public for its PremiereFest, a festival of the fandom arts that will take place Friday, July 13 on the University of Pennsylvania campus. It goes by the suitably gruesome title of I Solemnly Swear on the Bones of my Father. It will be active only for the seven days after the release of DH, no matter when the HPfGU list re-opens. I haven't set this up as a list elf, or as an extension of HPfGU. This is just me, personally, setting up a place for people to talk about the book, since HPfGU will be shut down. You can use it to develop theories if any theories need to be developed, or you can just use it to blow off steam. All members of HPfGU are invited to trundle on over. Bring friends. I think you can submit predictions and speculation now, if you like, but the main purpose of the board is to get the initial frantic reactions out in print and share them with fellow fans in the first few days after release. None of the rumors that have turned up on the internet in the last few weeks will be allowed. Those sites went up and then down again pretty quickly, so there could be copyright infringement involved. At the least it's not polite to other fans who don't want spoilers of any sort. Those rumors will be deleted as soon as I see them. The link is: http://groups.google.com/group/i-solemnly-swear-on-the-bones-of-my- father Ceridwen. I am the author of Harry Putter and the Chamber of Cheesecakes, a parody of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series. (http://www.lulu.com/content/54985) My book was originally written as a fun learning experience for the enjoyment of myself and my two sons. The three of us are all big Harry Potter fans. We are the architects for the storyline. We had such a fun time with our little project, and those who have read it have enjoyed it immensely, so we published it in an effort to share it with other fans. In this farce the Harry Potter characters, places, and past events have been twisted around with devilish wit. The story follows the adventures of Harry Putter, Ron Cheesley, and Hermione Stranger in their sixth year at school, seventh if you count preschool. While some of the encounters are spoofs reminiscent of the original tales, others are new, keeping the storyline fresh and unpredictable. Additionally, I have begun to make the book available as a free podcast at: http://www.podshow.com/feeds/harry-putter.xml Thanks for your consideration, tim From coriolan at coriolan_cmc.yahoo.invalid Sat May 19 01:40:53 2007 From: coriolan at coriolan_cmc.yahoo.invalid (Caius Marcius) Date: Sat, 19 May 2007 01:40:53 -0000 Subject: Harry Potter Filks: The Penultimate Pre-DH Update Message-ID: Harry Potter Filks was updated tonight in a very small way with a mere 13 new filks. You can go to http://www.fictionalley.org/scholarship/ for more information or to submit your application. Please forward this email to any friends and family who are talented writers or artists, or active in community service - one doesn't have to be a registered user of FictionAlley to apply! As you may remember, in March of 2005, one of FictionAlley's longtime writers lost her battle with leukemia. Even while she was in the hospital fighting against her illness, she continued to find strength as she wrote her story, assisted by her father, Dave O'Brien. As her father said, "Katie always wanted to be a writer, and she used this forum [FictionAlley] to fulfill her dreams. Correspondence with those who read and enjoyed her story sustained her even during the worst of times." Katie finished writing her story six days before she died; her father continued to upload those chapters onto FictionAlley through the spring. When we at FictionAlley learned that Katie had passed away, we realised that the best way we, as a site, could honor her memory would be to provide other writers, as well as artists and those who give back to the community, with some help in making their dreams come true. With the permission of Katie's family, we have established three annual scholarship awards of $500 ? the Katie O'Brien Memorial Scholarships for Writing, Art and Community Service. The scholarship funds can be used for tuition and/or books and materials. Last year, FAWC awarded three $500 scholarships (the winners' entries can be found on http://www.fictionalley.org/scholarship/ ) and will do the same this year, and for the 2008-2009 school year. We are close to funding three $500 scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year, and are accepting contributions and selling wristbands at http://www.fictionalley.org/wristbands.html, as well as at Sectus and Prophecy later this summer.
