Message-ID: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Hallie Tibbetts hallie.tibbetts at terminus2008.org TERMINUS ANNOUNCES WROCK CHICAGO Special pre-conference event to feature 25 wizard rock bands in concert CHICAGO, IL -- October 1, 2007 -- The planning team for Terminus, a five-day Harry Potter conference to be held August 7-11, 2008, has announced a special pre-conference wizard rock concert to be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2007. The event, Wrock Chicago, will take place all day at the Hilton Chicago Hotel, and include twenty-five wizard rock bands performing music inspired by Harry Potter. The bands--including The Switchblade Kittens, who wrote the first known wizard rock song "Ode to Harry" in 2000--span a range of musical genres, including pop, death metal, jazz, folk, and more. "There's something for every wizard rock fan," notes Amy Tenbrink, lead event organizer for Terminus. "We listened to dozens of bands to choose a representative group, and it was tough to narrow it down to the current lineup." "While Draco and the Malfoys and the Whomping Willows will perform as part of Terminus's wizarding talk show, The North Star LIVE!, we didn't have a way to really feature wizard rock during the conference itself," Tenbrink said. "We talked with some members of the wizard rock community, and ended up adding an entire optional day of Terminus devoted to the phenomenon. We believe it's the largest wizard rock show ever!" Brian Ross of Draco and the Malfoys, who is providing organizational support for the event, added, "It's a tribute to what these stories mean to our lives that so many people are expressing their love for Harry Potter creatively through music. For all of us to have a venue like Terminus to showcase that for some of the biggest Harry Potter fans in the world is very exciting!" Special event tickets for Wrock Chicago, which are $20 for the entire day and provide access to all stages, are currently on sale to Terminus attendees only. Current registrants can add the ticket through the "Change My Registration" option at . Unsold tickets will be made available to the public next spring and at the door, if any remain at that time. Twenty-four bands are presently confirmed for Wrock Chicago on August 6; the final band will be chosen through a contest to be held in February of 2008. Main stage performances include: The Switchblade Kittens Harry and the Potters Draco and the Malfoys The Whomping Willows The Remus Lupins The event also features: The Butterbeer Experience Catchlove Celestial Warmbottom The Chocolate Frogs The Cruciatus Curse Danny Dementor Justin Finch-Fletchley & the Sugar Quills Ginny and the Heartbreakers Gred and Forge The Gringotts Girls The Hermione Crookshanks Experience The Hinky Punks Lord Voldi and the Dark Marks The Moaning Myrtles The Mudbloods The Parselmouths The Quaffle Kids Snidget Thomas & Finnigan Terminus is presented by Narrate Conferences, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating dynamic, innovative educational events for adult scholars, students, educators, librarians, professionals, and fans. We have an HBP musical titled Rent by BellatrixLestrange, (here used in the sense of something being torn apart), based (obviously) on Jonathan Larson's Rent. It strongly emphasizes the romantic and shipping elements of the story. Also, I'm offering Act II of my first DH musical titled Crux, which is based on the original version of Chess by Benny Anderson, Bjorn Ulvaeus & Tim Rice. This begins with the Trio and Neville in the Room of Requirement, and proceeds through the train station epilogue (Act I will follow). Also filks by Bandersnatch, Anton, Nimbus1944, and a unique Chaucerian take on Snape by Ann! - CMC HARRY POTTER FILKS http://home.att.net/~coriolan/hpfilks.htm RENT http://home.att.net/~coriolan/musical/rent.htm CRUX, ACT II http://home.att.net/~coriolan/newfilks.htm#ThisYear From Nadine.Farghaly at phoebeada.yahoo.invalid Sun Oct 21 05:43:46 2007 From: Nadine.Farghaly at phoebeada.yahoo.invalid (phoebeada) Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 05:43:46 -0000 Subject: Survey for a conference paper Message-ID: Hello, My name is Nadine and I am a Graduate Student and Teaching Assistant at the Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. At the moment I am working on a conference paper about fan fiction in connection with the source text. This is the site where you can find the conference proposal: http://cfp.english.upenn.edu/archive/20th/3130.html I have chosen the Harry Potter books for this paper because of their popularity among fan fiction readers and writers and so far this has really been fun. I created a few questions that will be helpful to my research and I hope to get a lot of data. I am especially interested in Draco and Harry fanfiction as my main attention focuses on a possible queer reading of the Harry Potter books but I would be glad about any information you are willing to share with me. . I hope that a lot of fans are going to participate in this survey. http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=kynweklv8viva0j352337 If you have any question feel free to write me phoebeADA at ... Okay. It's up. The reorganized Red Hen essay collection. It isn't quite as through a job as I intended, but getting the open mouth tour at the last moment pretty much put paid to that. I may be tweaking or adding some new items over time(and have already spotted typos that need fixing), but in the meantime I have another deadline to meet and I'll be just as glad to get it out of my hair for a while. I've been slogging through it since about mid-September and I think I've gone a bit stale. http://www.redhen-publications.com/Potterverse.html From rachael at rstiegel.yahoo.invalid Wed Oct 31 20:39:39 2007 From: rachael at rstiegel.yahoo.invalid (rstiegel) Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 20:39:39 -0000 Subject: Snapecast Episode 24 Message-ID: Snapecast Episode 24 is up in which we discuss Snape's death, Dumbledore's big announcement and have some Halloween fun.
