Potioncat sighing with pessimism:
I agree. I think our gung-ho, can-do attitude should drive us to have
the coding done by our target date and as much of the reviews as
possible too. Then, I think we should (we? I mean Carolyn of course,
not me at all) should decide if the launch should go ahead or be
scheduled for a later date, after a test run of sorts. We want this
to be the best product possible.
If we launch at the same time as HBP comes out, no one will notice.
No one will use it. Everyone will be reading and posting as fast as
they can, and researching past posts will be the last thing on their
minds. If, however, we launch just as everyone is coming up for air,
it will be a new HP toy for them to use.
I also think we should be clear that this is a catalogue of themes,
and a good sampling of posts. Perhaps with a brief description of the
overwhelming numbers of posts we looked at.
My HP fan story.
The very friend who encouraged me to read HP for myself stopped
reading after PoA because she didn't enjoy them once they became so
dark (that's OK, at least she didn't join a discussion group and
complain about them endlessly) I was commenting on HBP and telling
her how upset my family was when I got lost in OoP. I said I wished I
could go away for the weekend, stay at a hotel by myself and just
read. She became very enthusiastic and said, "Oh yes, you should do
that! I insist you do that!" but when I added that I couldn't go away
the weekend it comes out because my kids are coming back from camp,
her reply was, "Well, you don't have to start reading it the very
first day it comes out, do you?"
Coding Issues:
Someone said they had coded something just for the historical nature
of it. I did the same thing. In an intense thread about canon and
subversive reading, ADMIN came out with one of those friendly
reminders and made a statement concerning HPfGU's policy about
interpretations. Normally that sort of thing is rejected/ADMIN, but
it fit so well, I kept it.
RL has kept me from the coding machine. I should be back in good
coding form next week. After that I'll take a look at the review
lists.
