Debbie is huddled quietly under her desk in the Catalogue Office,
but the dazzle of Ginger's gift is apparent even from there. Debbie
remains utterly still until she hears the office door open with a
creak, and then shut again. Debbie peers out from under the desk to
make sure she is alone, then crawls out and gets to her feet.
Reaching back under the desk, she gathers an armful of empty sherry
bottles and quickly shoves them into a trash bag.

On her way to the door, Debbie glances at Miss H's table, thinking
how lonely it's been without her.

She's back! Only then does Debbie realize that Miss H herself left
Ginger the beautiful shiny present. Could Debbie get one for
herself? Maybe one wrapped in glittering black holographic paper,
which seems at first glance to have a vampire pattern, and at second
glance to look like the covery of a LeCarre spy novel? Well, it
doesn't hurt to ask.

Debbie reaches in her pocket and pulls out a burrowing owl. She
fluffs out his bedraggled feathers, then attaches

to its leg and exits the catalogue office. Once outside, she points
the owl in the direction of Miss Havisham's and lets him go. Then
she tosses the trash bag into the dumpster and sets off for the wine
shop. For the return of Miss H, only the best wine will do, and she
wants it ready and waiting not only for her but for all the team
members who hear our leader's call to arms.
