Out of a feeling of nostalgia, she wanders up to her old place of employment. She tries to peer through the windows but the grime is too thick. She rattles the door knob and to her surprise, the door opens. The room is covered in cobwebs and dust. Incomplete projects lay as left on desks. "Oh," she thinks, "It's just like Pompey." But the more she looks around the less somber it appears. There's a dead spider with a long name that Potioncat once looked up on google--and regretted--- it's wearing a party hat. "We did have some fun!" Potioncat smiles. We had people in Africa and people on ships. How are they I wonder? She steps into Miss's office. The same piles of papers and codes are scattered over the room, covered in a thick layer of dust. Potioncat sees something has been written in the dust on the desk, > > Quick post in case Yahoo shuts the site through lack of traffic.. > > ..ooh dear, what to do with 60000+ nicely sorted posts, 99% of which > proved to be wild speculation. > > Mad or wot. > > Cx Potioncat shakes her head and mumbles, "60000 posts, 99% wild speculation and the other 1% LOLLIPOPS." Well, we have to do something to keep this dump--erm--histerical location from being closed down. What we need is a party! A come as you are/what are you doing/What have you been reading/do you still post/ have another drink party. A reunion---without prom memories to mess it up. She picks up the black phone and waits for the automatic dial to start. Silence. Wondering if the former catalogers will need to be contacted individually, she studies the circle, surrounded by numbers and tries to remember how to "dial" a number. An odd sound has caught her attention. It is vaguely familiar, like an old friend. Yet Ginger had never had any friends, the Dursleys had seen to that. Wait, that wasn't Ginger. That was Harry Potter. Hey! That's what it is. It's the old catalogue call! Ginger steps over to the computer and begins to type: Hi, everyone. I haven't posted at all. To be honest, I have dropped out of the HP circle completely. I loved book 7. All of my pertinent questions were answered and I got sick and tired of people going on about how she had written it all wrong and how they would have written it better since "their" Hermione/Ron/Harry/Ginny/whoever would never have acted in the way that JKR's characters did. I got sick of people complaining that JKR did it all wrong because they had jumped to different conclusions, and since interpretation is their right, that means that JKR was wrong not to follow through. So I quit. I still get the chapter things from Main, but beyond that, no more. So, what have I been doing? Well, I went back to school before book 7. I'm finishing up online since driving 90 miles away is the only other option. I will be doing my experientials this summer and then I will be a certified pharmacy tech. I have a hamster named Niklas Mathieu Daniel Robert. I got him after Henrik Pavel Tomas Nicklas Dominik ran away. They are named after players from the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. I have become obsessed with them. I spend what spare time I can find on a chat site for them, kind of like I did with HP. So what are all you up to? I'd like to hear from you. With her brain well past the saturation point, a break is called for. She pushes the fifty open windows on her computer screen out of the way, opens the Catalogue portal, and dives through into another world to find herself... at a desk surrounded by massive piles of paper. Hmmm, when did my real life start resembling my Catalogue one so closely? Well, hello again, everyone. It's nice to see a little conversation around this dusty office again. Not much to report about myself lately. Like Ginger, I also gave up the HP boards after the last book. I found Book 7 thoroughly enjoyable, although I still think the quality of the series peaked with GoF. However, my favorite part of the message boards had always been the wild theorizing, and of course that had to end when the series was completed. Though I still feel like we should do something with all those neatly-sorted files sitting out there in the middle of the office... As for real life, I take my general exam in just under a month, which is the big whopping test where I present the research I've done so far and then get quizzed on pretty much everything I've learned in my life, and then they decide whether I have what it takes to do PhD-level research. So I've spent the last month reading, and programming, and reading some more, and cursing wildly at my computer screen, and then falling asleep with for loops and ODE solvers and zooplankton feeding flashing before my eyes. So yeah, not too exciting. But if anyone decides to do anything about those files, I might be able to help. After generals, that is. No life, fictional or otherwise, allowed before then. -Kelly, wishing Ginger congrats on the Red Wings' victory this afternoon, but... Penguins all the way! Penguins all the way! But of course! :D I should be more forthcoming. I had my doubts about book 7, but if that's the way JKR wanted it, she's the author. I am less pleased about the JKR vs Ark lawsuit, mainly because of the chilling effect it will have if JKR wins, which seems likely. The List is mostly white noise to me these days... I'm actually casting about for another author to be passionate about, since I started doing shiftwork in an internet support callcentre. I need to balance bizarre phonecalls with something. Ginger said: > They are named after players from the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. I have > become obsessed with them. It is Autumn here and an old penguin's thoughts turn to Australian Football League and the yelling at the TV thereof. Although shifts of 3pm-11pm mean timeshifted yelling now. AFL is our lunatic brand of Irish football crossed with more lunacy and running all day after an elliptical ball that bounces unpredictably. Not as honestly ruthless as hockey/ice hockey but a major player recently got suspended for 7 weeks after punching out an opponent for no reason, when he thought the ref wasn't looking. Well, hey. A sort of languid party is going on. I like that. I have to admit to occasionally lurking on HPfGU and OTC, and even posting once in a while. It's like scratching an old itch. Or haunting an old haunt. I didn't like DH, so it's not fun like it used to be. I must still be looking for closure, or something. I'm working on a drawing and a painting right now. I'm trying to get a few things ready for the local summer art shows. My eldest's high school graduation is looming, which would be exciting, except that we're having college-choosing angst -- she has to choose among three, and the deadline approaches. My husband likes the Penguins. He tells me how they're doing. Go Pens! Anne
