Also, sometimes you can log on and get the original message and write a response off-line like many of us with dial-up connections. With the time differences around the world, there may not have *been* a response as you compose yours and it goes to your outbox ready to be sent later. When you log on again, however, there could have been a number of responses in the meantime, perhaps saying saying the same thing your message just did. There isn't really a way around that, and to say too much may discourage some people from posting at all. 

It's happened to me a number of times, and I think we just have to put up with it.
