I don't think this is possible.  You can set the archives to be open 
to anyone, to members only, or to moderators only.  There's no date-
related setting.  The only way to do this would be to move to a new 
group or to archive all the old posts somewhere and then delete them 
all from the main group, either of which would be a huge undertaking.

FWIW, I've always liked the idea of making the archives open to the 
public.  I have nothing to lose but my already-bad reputation.
