Posting limits--not the same as setting limits

Carol responds:

LOL! love your options (and, yes, I'm sure that everyone knew that
they were intended to be funny and chuckled as they read). Shat a
coincidence that I should come here about five and a half months after
you began this thread with exactly the same topic (but not nearly as
clever an approach) in mind.

As one of those posters who has been guilty of dominating the list
and/or working out my theories through responses to a thread, I'm not
sure that I'll be listened to if I speak up in favor of dropping the
five-post limit. Nevertheless, I think it's served its purpose. I've
seen members other than me sign off by noting that they've used up
their quota of posts, and, like Potioncat, I wonder what they would
have had to say if they'd been allowed to post their thoughts. Like
Alla and Potioncat, I don't like posts that combine several threads in
one post. It's also a lot of work to combine responses to several
posters in the same thread. Posts get attributed to the wrong people
and important points get skipped over. I, for one (not speaking for
anyone else) prefer to respond to one poster at a time, particularly
if that poster has addressed me in particular.

I do agree that we should read the whole thread before posting our
response, but then we have to go back and locate the specific points
and posters that we want to respond to (or do what I'm doing here, and
just respond to the initial post hoping that I'm remembering other
people's points correctly and attributing them correctly).

At any rate, with the small number of people on the list, we have a
lot of dead days so not nearly as many posts to wade through as when
DH had not come out or first came out. People on OT have even
suggested combining the lists to get more posts, which I find to be a
bad idea. (I like keeping OT stuff off the list altogether and giving
the films their own list.) Recently, we've had several active threads
and interesting exchanges and I've found myself wanting to make a
sixth post but finding that I'd reached my limit.

Carol, who understands the reasons that the List Elves have presented
but still thinks that the time has come for an experimental lifting of
the five-post limit
