Eb: <<<(Very Important Note: The first rule of giving Stupid American Tourists
directions is this. DON'T GIVE US TOO MUCH INFORMATION! My body is going to
feel like it's 2 a.m. when I get there as it is--I'm not a night person--I want
the no-brainer route. And then there's my luggage to think of!)
I need suggestions, bit-by-bit details, etc. Help, please.>>>
Dai: <<<Just go to the railtrack website trains enquiry page
(http://212.87.65.227/bin/query.exe/en) and tap in the details of you journey
(Starting Station London, Heathrow - Destination station, Oxford, date
(dd/mm/yy) and time of travel and it'll come up with a few options for you.
There are trains from Heathrow to Oxford with 1 change at Reading, takes about 2
hours.
You can buy a ticket at the station at Heathrow, just ask for "a single to
Oxford" which'll take you all the way, and they'll do the business for you.>>>

NO! Do not try and use the train. Buses between Oxford and London or Heathrow
are very good and are a much better option than the train.

I am not sure which terminal you will arrive at but the bus picks up from both
terminal 4 and the main Heathrow bus station. Buses leave every 30 minutes. On
the hour and half hour from the main bus station (between terminals 1,2 and 3)
and 10 minutes after this from terminal 4 bus stop. Using the bus you will not
have to change.

The cost of this is ?11 for a single and ?14 for an open-ended return. If you
are going directly to CCC (Corpus Christi College) and are happy with a few
hundred-metre walk then get off on the high street (the driver *should* tell you
when you are there). Else go all the way to the bus station and get a taxi back
to CCC. It all depends on how much luggage you have.

http://www.ox.ac.uk/aboutoxford/maps/mainmap.shtml is a map of central Oxford.
If my memory serves me correctly then the bus stops just outside the number 34
(which is the high street).

Eb: <<<I've read Neil's advice re: cheap eats. I need to know the cheapest way
to buy *everything*>>>
Dai: <<<Asda's the cheapest, it's owned by Walmart and has saved many student
lives. I dunno if there's one in Oxford, I'm sure Simon can help you out
there.>>>

Central Oxford is crap for supermarkets. There is a small Sainsbury's in the
Westgate Centre (next to the church that is next to Pembroke College (centre
bottom of the map mentioned above)). There is also the covered market, which
sells food and other stuff for comparable prices to the supermarket (but the
cafes and sandwich shops in there are quite expensive (even if they do serve
really good food and drink)). The covered market is a few minutes walk from CCC
and is findable between the High Street, Market Street, Turl Street and
Cornmarket Street.

I rarely eat out in Oxford so do not really know about any of the restaurants.
Several of the pubs do good food. Good drink as well ;)

Eb: <<< Any chance of meeting any UK listies? It's time to make definite
plans... I've met Penny already, so it's time to meet some more of you!>>>
Dai: <<<I'm sure we can all have a meet up at some point in July.>>>

July sounds fine to me. I will be job hunting (or possibly about to start a
job - if things go well) so can find time to visit the city where I have spent
so much time recently.

Eb: <<<Wednesdays are our group travel days. We're going to London twice,
Stratford twice, Bath once, and Warwick Castle once. Depending upon how I feel,
I may opt for the 28 July (Sat) group trip to Hampton Court Palace as well.>>>

I went to Warwick Castle last weekend. A very nice place. Avoiding going to Bath
this weekend. Revision is a very good reason not to do something that you do not
want to do.

Just keep asking the questions and I will try to answer. With the exception of
the hair question, which I have no answer for (or at least no acceptable
answers).
