I quite liked Snape's costume, though it was so dark, I couldn't 
easily see all the details you observed. Was he wearing trousers?  I 
thought he was wearing something like a cassock, with all those nice 
covered buttons going down the front - of course, you can wear 
trousers under a cassock, too.  Anyway, I thought it was suitably 
severe for Snape - I wouldn't have done anything different.
