eek! great imagination cindy, but we couldn't lose the yule ball... 

1) none of the krum-hermione-ron tension, which depending on jkr's 
intentions could play larger parts in later movies.

2) no hermione make-over scene (a must for all us bespectacled, post- 
orthodontic work girls who only just keep their frizzies under 
control).
