As a huge fan of the movie and Baz Lurhmann's two major works so
far, Moulin Rouge and William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, I can
tell you that is the version. It is available under the latter title
mentioned, on vhs, DVD, and DVD Special Edition. There are quite a
few features under the Special edition DVD, including but not
limited to commentaries, behind-the-scenes excerpts, cast
interviews, etc. The stars in the Lead roles were Leonardo DiCaprio
and Claire Danes, with quite a few other stars in different roles.
For those of you who don't recognize this version by the director,
it made a bozz back in 1997 because Luhrmann made the film with all
lines written as Shakespeare penned them, however, he changed the
setting around to a modern setting in a slummed-out "Verona Beach."
for an example, in one of the first scenes, the Capulets and
Montagues get into a fight in a gas station in cars, and when one of
them "draws swords", they draw a pistol, and the camera goes closeup
on the side, where it says clearly, "Sword, 9mm". It is an excellent
watch for any fans of Romeo and Juliet, in my opinion.
