The article definitely confused Mark Radcliffe with Dan's mom. I
remember someone had asked before if Mark is related to Daniel. The
answer is no. Mr. Mark Radcliffe is a pure red-blooded American.
>From what I read, the producer indeed knew Dan's father from work,
but Columbus didn't know him, and wanted Dan from the beginning.
Besides, like many other posts pointed out, Dan's parents were
reluctant to let Dan attend audition even when the producer expressed
his interest. They asked him to meet Dan first, simply just to talk,
to see if he would change his mind. I got an impression that they
were trying their best to protect their son but meanwhile be careful
not blocking his fate, and because of their knowledge about this
industry, they succeeded.
Finally, sing my praise to Dan too. In my opinion, he is the best
among young actors in this film. He can act in a very subtle,
realistic but very moving way. He also has a natural charm. He is
Harry Potter.
