LOTR and HP (a different POV) and Karkaroff

I happen to agree with the majority that you can't really compare LOTR
with HP because they are entirely different books/movies with different
specifications. I also happen to agree with the majority that LOTR was
really the better-made movie.

I went into the theatre for both Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings
completely ignorant of the books. When I came out of Harry Potter, I
wanted to read the books and within 4 days I had. I found the books to
be rather like an extension of the movie. With LOTR, the movie is so
fantastically made I don't particularly want to read the books and have
my views and ideals changed; in fact, the only reason I'd read the
books is to get rid of this anxiety I have because the movie finished
on a cliffhanger.

Personally, I thought LOTR was by far the better film, spectacularly
made and laboured over by all those involved, whereas Harry Potter just
gave me a taster of the books, like an appetiser.

With that in mind, is LOTR really a bad movie, because it's so good it
detracts potential readers from the books?

On an entirely HP topic: I was watching Lara Croft this morning and I
suddenly had an idea - how about Iain Glen for Karfaroff? Iain Glen was
Mr. Powell in Tomb Raider. Sure, he needs a moustache but if the
make-up artists can turn Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane into
hairballs, I'm sure a puny bit of facial hair won't be a hassle with
Glen.
