Miserable Myrtle?

Not having read CoS, I couldn't speculate on the age of the 
character, but I can say one very *good* reason for changing a 
character's name from Moaning to Miserable.

Moaning, in the world of adults, can have a very *very* sexual 
connotation and could very well end up as the subject of many many 
tasteless jokes.
