He's 20. My crush on him is the thing that makes me sane. Although I
still feel like a cradle robber. :)
No, I understand fandom. When I was 12 years old (many many moons ago) my
three best friends and I were so into Lord of the Rings that we pooled
money and purchased real gold and gem rings for each other (a gold band
for the only boy and the 3 elven rings for the three girls). I think I
dated Johnathon more because we called him Frodo than for any personal
qualities he actually had.
This is different. I very much liked the books before the movie, but my
sister was the one obsessed with the Harry Potter shrine where she kept
her books and posters and Scholastic brand paraphenelia. Then the first
time I saw the poster book for the movie, I felt something. Now I have
puzzles, posters, yahoo.groups, horrible magazines for kids that don't
even get elementary facts right, and my sister calling me "overboard."
Oh, and I have the lego chamber of the keys scene, because I could no
longer stand to not own the lego Harry. (I'm giving the rest of the set
to my husband's little brother, a Harry fan who collects legos, but I've
told him he has to get his own Harry.)
I thought it would fade after LOTR came out, but it seems to have only
made things worse. Now I insist on seeing the movies closer and closer
together so I can compare and contrast my reacions to each leading
man/boy. It's all just so very wrong. I haven't had a completely free
day to watch them both on the same day, but I'm sure that is coming, and
that right soon.
But I'm really a very normal person. No, really. Hopefully they'll let
me out of this lovely self-hugging coat soon so I can shake hands all
around and introduce myself properly.
