Hard to say - I think JKR herself said that Daniel perfectly embodies
Harry's spirit...and I'm wild about Harry, though I have to admit that
the line between the two is blurred for me as well. I'm not sure I
could handle him doing some of the darker, edgier (Elijah Wood) type
stuff that young, serious actors seem to crave these days. The appeal
for me, in both the books and the film is the earnest way in which the
story is told, with just enough of JKR's dry wit to keep it
interesting. (Which is why I refuse, at the expense of being told I
have no fussy, edgy, gritty drama-critic type taste, to dis Columbus's
version of SS.) I would definitely buy into the Daniel-IS-Harry theory
to explain his appeal...and I'm enjoying it too much to have my bubble
burst just yet.
As for Rosie's interview - she *was* a little in-your-face, wasn't
she?...I think she deserves to become an honorary member of
A.T.A.D.D.R.I.F.T.Y. I'm pretty sure that was her problem, as she
usually does a little better than that - and seemed to recover, once the
adults were onstage. In her defense as well, she's dealing with kids
who don't react at all in a way she is used to. I think she even
marveled once, that American kids would be much more uninhibited and
less polite - and made me laugh, when she said that she wanted to take
young Daniel to Great Adventure and put him on a rollercoaster (I had
just been thinking the same thing!) I think she'd be a fabulous Rita
Skeeter - and just might get a chance to redeem herself with Daniel,
Rupert and Emma if they get to know her in a more relaxed setting. (Poor
thing - she really did come off as somewhat of a maniac.)
Mary - who, upon reading Tabouli's latest offering, fell to her knees
and kow-towed while laughing hysterically.
