about the grand or great hall, either way- the reason why they didn't include the sky during the day can probably be broken down into three different, plausible reasons as follows:

1- maybe it was too expensive to have the owls fly in a drop the mail by cgi and at the same time have the sky there.
2- maybe it was too time costly to continually add in these effects to get the movie out in time.
3- maybe it was just too expensive to do the sky(i know it may sound odd, because they spent so much on the effects, but everybody's gotta draw the line somewhere, right? so maybe they were at their limit- it was probably spent on more important cgi effects, like fluffy. of course, i could be totally off my base- but this is just a theory).

i don't think this will solve the discussion- but it was my immediate reaction. anyone agree?

Yeah, she said that. So we know it looks like the night sky at night, but I
always thought it ALWAYS looked like the sky outside? Being rushed out the
door to go get tetnus shots *whimper*, so can't find book reference. I'm
just sure I remember Harry noticing bright blue skies at one point, and
swirling grey clouds at another. And also numerous times when he notices it
  at breakfast.

Am I right, or am I just making things up in my panic about having sharp
bits of metal stuck into me?

  Cheers,
