It's not a suitcase - the House uniform (sweater, tie, scarf, gloves 
& cloak) is laid out neatly on a chair. I certainly wouldn't expect 
any 11 year-old boy to be that neat (furthermore, there's nothing 
else on the chair), so I assume that the set is left there by the 
elves, one set per pupil.
