I'd go for theory 1. myself. They've changed the uniform for 50
years ago so it's NOT obvious what house Riddle was in.
Moaning Myrtle seemed to have the same 'Hogwarts' crest on her
ghostly cloak as well (it was a bit difficult to tell, but I
remember thinking 'that doesn't look like the Slytherin crest', so
theory 2. is probably unlikely.
It's a quite deliberate change, and the only reason I can think of
is that they want to keep it quiet which house Riddle was in. And
the only reason for that I can think of is that, actually, we don't
know what House Voldemort comes from at all.
Perhaps we're going to find out he was a Gryffindor?
