<<<I said this once, and nobody seemed to get what I meant, but for me the
main theme in the first movie always, when I'm humming it, manages to segue
into Schindler's List. The only comment I got when I pointed this out a year
ago was that Schindler's List and Harry Potter (as works) were nothing
alike, which had not been what I was saying (I'm not even sure how the
responder *got* there....anyway). Has anyone noticed this?>>>

A little tangent off of your topic, Amanda...I find myself starting to hum "Danse Macabre" (the main theme with the slightly off-key violin) whenever I hear Hedwig's theme. Probably because they both have that lilting/floating/dancing kind of quality.
And now, for something completely different...

Okay, I am wondering if anyone else is going through "movie anxiety". Let me explain...

Last year, when the first movie came out, I re-read the first book a couple of times. But I kept telling myself that everything was not going to be in the movie the same as it was in the book, so to not get too canon crazy. Yeah, like that that was gonna work.

And then I started surfing the web and finding out all I could about the movie. HP Galleries and TLC were my sites of choice. I sure miss HP Galleries, but Leaky Cauldron has done a superb job of keeping me up to date and having loads of movie pics. But I digresss...

I found out all I could about the movie and the cast, and had seen just about every picture there was on the net. I bet I had seen about half the movie in stills on the net. So, needless to say, I got really, really excited for the movie to come out. My expectations were very, very high.

Then, I saw the movie. Oh, yes, I *liked* it well enough. But there were parts that I obsessed over during the rest of the movie. Especially his *blue* eyes. I couldn't stop thinking about that for two days. I had read a rumor that said they were going to CGI his eyes green because Dan couldn't handle the contacts. But no CGI was apparent in the theatres. The inconsistancies with Dan's ever changing voice bothered me as well, again causing me to be distracted during the rest of the film. Little things would bother me, like "Hermione NEVER said that!" and "Oh, they got that part mixed up", etc.

I didn't love the movie like I expected to, and I felt let down. But, the more I saw the movie, the more I began to appreciate it in and of itself, as it's own separate entity. Now I can actually say I love the movie, but it took quite a few times to get to that point.

I see a similar pattern this time. I did re-read the book by reading it aloud to my now 6 year-old who can finally sit and listen to a story without pictures now, but that was during the summer. I think that the amount of time between the two events will help me be not so canon crazy this time. What triggered my "anxiety" is all the talk about the scenes that we hope are in the movie. Now I'm getting worried...will we not see Harry get knocked down by a dwarf and receive his "Green Pickled Toad" Valentine? What about the Deathday Party? And what's the deal with that spinning phoenix thingy in front of Dumbledore's office (on the previews)? Why do the previews make Ron out to be scared out of his wits while Harry does everything? AAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH!

<Takes a deep, calming breath> I'm just so afraid of being let down again. Silly, isn't it? Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

~Lilac, who will be making an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow because she suspects that she has OCD... :)
