Well, keep in mind he was already in a couple of movies before HP came out.
David Copperfield being the most prominent, and he did a terrific job of
that.  Cute little thing, he was.

Also, Daniel seems quite open about his future.  He most commonly says he'd
like to write or direct.  I see him doing the Ron Howard thing.  As he said,
he knows he can't do that at fourteen, so whether he acts for a while or
finds something else to do, I don't know.  But he definitely has the makings
of a future director.  Oh, and as for that Ron Howard thing, I said it
myself over a week ago.  Barely two days later, Chris Columbus said
basically the same thing!  Great minds, you know.
