Hagrid the not so very big giant-
I really think they are falling down on the job in their potrayal of
Hagrid as a half-giant. He is suppose to be 8 to 10 feet tall (2.4M to
3.0Meters; 1 meter=40 inches). That was easy to do when Dan and Rupert
were 11 yrs. old and only came up to Robby Coltrane's waist but now
Dan comes up to Robby/Hagrids shoulder and he hasn't stopped growing.
It's a shame when you look at what a great job they did in Lord of the
Rings at creating the illusion of tall and short. Even without the
special effects, they could make Hagrid look taller by having him
stand on a box when he stands next to people, and when he walks along
side them, he could walk on a raised platform. How much would that
have cost? The would have only had to use special effects in the
rarest of shots.
In PoA, they are going to have a hard time maintaining our belief that
Robby/Hagrid is anything but a big but ordinary guy. Also, it somewhat
corrupts the illusion, if in the fourth movie where Hagrid being a
giant is important to the story, he is suddenly 4 feet taller.
The very ungiant spiders-
Then there are the ridiculously small spiders in the trailer. Maybe we
haven't seen the really big ones yet, but there is one short scene in
the trailer where a spider is crawling toward them and I assume that
this is Aragog. However, this spider isn't even 3 feet tall, and the
spiders that get run over by the car are roughly the same size. These
spiders are suppose to be able to pick Harry and Ron up and carry
them. These puny spiders don't look up to the task.
In GoF, a spider is suppose to pick Harry up, puncture his leg then
drop him twelve feet so he sprains his ankle. These spider CERTAINLY
aren't up to that job.
Very short sighted on all fronts if you ask me.
