Snake Size

Despite recent comments about the snake's size not being mentioned in the books, when I read CoS I thought of a much larger snake, something like the one in the first film, not a gargantuan snake, just something with more visual ooomph.

bigger! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the book doesn't actually say that the
snake is huge, does it?? If it does, then why have I always imagined it
being normal size? I think the one in the trailer is *exactly* as I saw it
when reading the book. I would certainly be scared of it, and it's fangs.

brown/green. Maybe I'm going crazy.

Well, I thought the snake was just fine. The book says, and I quote "Harry
watched, aghast, as a long black snake shot out of it, fell heavily onto the
floor between them, and raised itself, ready to strike."

Now, the snake in the film is brown, not black, but does that really matter?
Anyway, it is long enough to qualify as long, and since the book doesn't
actually say "big" it doesn't have to be big. And it does fall heavily on
the floor between them, and of course it cuts away before we get to see it
raise up to strike.
