No, I've noticed that too, and it does tend to bug me. It's not natural at 
all. Why doesn't he check her pulse? I don't know about anybody else, but I 
knew how to do that at age 12. His reaction would have informed the audience 
if she was alive or dead. 

Fascinating idea about the hand thing...something else to ponder.
