About 2 years ago there was a program on Discovery Health, I think, 
that documented the transition from child into adolescent. It 
followed a 12 year old boy and12 year old girl. When the boy turned 
13 + a couple of months, he entered a growth spurt where he grew 6 
inches and his voice changed, and started growing body hair. Sounds 
like Dan is just where he is supposed to be
