It stretches the image a bit, but if it is already widescreen version you don't really notice much of a difference.  Nothing gets cut off though.  We still get the full image.

Sorry, I misread!

We are using the zoom feature on our dvd player.
Our TV doesn't have one, so I don't know if there is a
difference.
