ummm...The potter series has a traditional opening crane shot of Privet drive. It shoudl remain this tradition for it sets the seem and it immediately hooks in the watcher. A scene such as you describe that is essential to the plot should be shown later (if at all) after the theme of the film and its story is fleshed out. A scene that "explains" does not "set" the mood of the film. Thus the opening shot will be a crane shot of #4 privet drive, most likely zoming in through the window of Harry's room with him lying in bed reading the Muggle paper with Sirius' picture on the front, then the scene continues with Harry being called to dinner and having the Muggle news in the background talking about the escaped convict, which flows nicely to a small discussion of it with the family, which segways to Aunt Marge, which begins Harry's 3rd year adventure.

Opening scene ~must~ be the Peter Sirius confrontation, if only to
convince fans that an hysterically laughing Oldman can look a crazed
and murdurous lunatic. If they put a bit of that part in the trailor,
maybe some would remember that Oldman, unlike grint, for instance,
can at least act. It needn't be long, it needn't do anything at all
but show Peter, Sirius, the bang and the dead, laughing, the taking
away. Yep. That better be scene one.
