Hello, distinguished Potterfans out there!
First of all, since this is my first post, let me introduce myself:
Mathilde, 22 years old french conductor, and obviously a HP fan :)
I have been reading this list for a little while and really enjoy it;
plus, it is so much less impressive than the main HPfGU (I don't think
I'll ever have the courage to post there, it just goes much too fast
for me, I can't spend 24 hours a day on my computer with the five HP
volumes on the left of the keyboard...). Anyway, to the discussion:
Thanks Naomi for the article, I am also sooooo looking forward to
seeing Cuaron's POA!!! I agree with all you guys who said we're much
better rid of Columbus. (and I completely follow Dan F on his great
post about the difference between a literal transcription of the books
like Columbus does, and a *real* movie.)
I haven't seen any of Shyamalan's movies (yes, yes, I know, shame on
me!) so I don't really have an opinion about his directing a Potter
movie; and as for Newell, having only seen Four Weddings and Donnie
Brasco (which I liked quite a lot except for the totally unneeded
sawing scene... yuck!), I would say: let's wait and see. (talking about
Four Weddings --wouldn't Charlotte Coleman have been the *ultimate*
Tonks? :( )
However, what happened to the rumours about Steven Spielberg being
interested in GOF? Here's a director who obviously knows how to work
with kids (even though the Trio and Co are now teenagers, it's
important), how to handle special effects, and set a dark atmosphere
(cf Minority Report!). And, judging by his two latest movies, Catch me
if you can and Minority Report, it looks like he's back in top form...
Now, since I'm talking about GOF --an idea about Madame Maxime, and
Beaux-Bâtons people in general... Just like the whole cast, so far, is
British, wouldn't it be great to have *real* French actors for
Beaux-Bâtons? :) Unfortunately I'm short, dark-haired and totally
unveelanish so I can't apply for Fleur ;) but I have an idea of who
could be Madame Maxime: Marianne James. She is a french humorist and
singer, and just has the stature (she must be over 1,80 m and has a,
let's say, healthy physique that would perfectly match Robbie
Coltrane's Hagrid :) ) and the diva attitude Olympe needs. She used to
have a show called L'Ultima Recital in which she was Ulrika von Glott,
an extravagant german soprano (some sort of a mix of Elisabeth
Schwarzkopf, Maria Callas, Renata Scotto with lots of Bianca Castafiore
bits in it) that made both opera lovers and non musical audience laugh
their guts out. The funniest is, she as a person is as simple, nice,
natural and unfussy as Ulrika is extravagant, dictatorial and vulgar.
Oh, and she has a real gift for accents. I can just hear her saying
"Dumblydorr" ;)
Here are the links to some pictures:

Marianna James as her famous alter ego Ulrika von Glotte:

If you just mix the two to tame enough Ulrika but add enough
divaishness to Marianne, I think it could make a nice Olympe Maxime :)
Well, I think that's enough for a first post. Sorry for making it so
longish, but I just thought I would put everything in one message
rather that posting many short notes.
