Franchises (or at least series of movies with the same characters, etc., I
can think of offhand): The Matrix; The Godfather; Die Hard; Lethal Weapon;
Crocodile Dundee; Shaft (I think there were several); Rocky; Alien; Terminator;
what else? Many of these have won Oscars for various things -- one of the
"Godfather" movies got Best Picture, I believe. But how many KIDS movies (and I
don't really think of HP as "kids' movies" beyond CoS) have won Oscars? I don't
know, I'm not an Oscar buff enough to recall. Anyone else know?
Reply:
"Kids" movies tend not to do well with the Oscars. E.T. was nominated for a slew of Oscars in 1983 and Beauty and the Beast was the first and only animated film up for Best Picture. Thanks to the new Animated Feature category, most animated films at least have a shot. It would be a very cold day in hell if Harry Potter was ever nominated in any of the major categories. Films considered mainly for children such as Harry Potter or primarly sci-fi/fantasy such as Lord of the Rings, are often overlooked. Harry Potter has both going against it.
All three Godfather films were nominated for Best Picture, only the third one failed to garner the award.
