I read that JKR asked for a shot of a bat to be included in the PS/SS film. So have other people. However, no-one seems to know where they read it. Does anybody know where this quotation comes from?
I checked the film specifically for bat references. The first one is in the Diagon Alley scene. There is a bat hanging upside down. It appears to be hanging between two shop signs. The first shop sign ends in the letters RY and the second shop sign starts with MAC.
The next reference is when McGonagall takes Harry to meet Oliver Wood. She interrupts Quirrell's DADA lesson as he is saying the words "the vampire bat". Then there is a shot of Quirrell holding an iguana. There are bat shaped mobiles hanging in the classroom and there are two directly in front of and above Ian Hart on the right hand side of the shot. McGonagall then takes Wood outside and tells Wood that she has found him a Seeker. Meanwhile, offscreen and in the background, Ian Hart continues speaking, but some of his speech is drowned out. However, I've listened closely and I definitely caught the words "in a form of vampirism". Can anybody else make out exactly what he is saying? Does anybody know if there is a copy of the PS/SS script on the web so I could check the dialogue?
Finally, what significance could be attached to all of these visual and verbal references to bats and vampires?
