Actually the "twee" (I think you must like that word a lot!) composer
you're thinking of is John Williams. I'm not a big fan of his; I
don't think he's put out an original score since the 70s. But
personally I think the Macbeth choir piece for the trailer is a VAST
improvement over the repetitive, trite, formulaic work he did for PS
(and which was then copied over by someone else for COS). At least
it's something a little different, and I find that very encouraging.
I think the choir is supposed to be one of the Christmas feast
entertainments JKR describes in the books, or possibly something that
goes along with Halloween during Black's rampage through Gryffindor
Tower. However, in any case, if it is in the movie, I'm positive it
will be in the background, offsetting some action or dialogue.
Cuaron's whole approach to the books seems entirely different than
Columbus, and I am greatful for that at the very least, even if I
find problems with his interpretation ultimately. We can't always get
what we want; and I think anyone expecting to get what they want
might be spending a little too much time in a dream world.
Maybe you should try watching the trailer with your speakers OFF? It
might be beneficial.
