I think you hit the nail on the head... As a writer myself, when I 
write, I tend to think of a person I know, or have seen, and base my 
character on him/her.  I think every writer does.  For myself, 
sometimes it's a combination of people in one character based on what 
I want for that character.  I know Anne Rice had Rutger Hauer (SP) in 
mind when she created Lestat.
