I don't know if this is the case, but I know that some filmmakers are very 
hesitant to use contacts on younger actors because some believe that 
contacts can be hard or possibly dangerous for younger eyes.  I don't know 
if that's actually true or not, but because some are concerned about it, 
I've heard of other filmmakers not letting kids wear contacts for 
roles.  (For example, the little boy who played the "young" Heath Ledger in 
"A Knights Tale" had different coloured eyes than Heath does, but they 
didn't want to make him wear contacts, so in the movie his eyes are just 
differently coloured when young than they are as an adult.)
