True, though GoF the book does break the template too. It doesn't
start with the Dursley's but starts in Little Hangleton. It's
presented as Harry's dream, but we know it's more than a dream. So,
given that they are going to have to cut loads, that JKR steps away
from the usual template herself, and that Gred and Forge are already
so short changed, then it seems a good idea to cut out Privet Drive.
Even at the end of the book the presence of the Dursley's lacks its
usual punch, since the hexing of Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle, and then
the kiss from Hermione, steals all the limelight
Cheers,
Dumbledad.
