I do think this is part of it.  It's hard to switch from one to the
other after 2 movies have passed.  I must admit, I liked Harris's
voice most of all, and think the dialogue is where he truly excelled.

I thought Harris conveyed this eccentricity too.  I think in PoA there
was more opportunity to display this with the whole time turner scene.
 To me, there where times in PoA when DD came across as a little angry
when he was not supposed to be.   I think had Harris survived to make
the 3rd movie, he would have done just as well as Gambon, if not
better.
