Other films do a poor job of adapting the source, being more of
an ego-trip of the writer & director than an attempt to honor
the source. The recent "Battlestar Galactica" miniseries is
a good example: adequate enough on its own merits, but it made
very little effort to honor the source material, so much so
that it might have been better off trying to be an original
story than attempting (and failing) to leverage the good
  will of the original.>>

I agree... I read "White Oleander", and I finally watched it on HBO. I was very
disappointed in the movie! I thought the actors were fine, and if I didn't read the
book, I would have liked it. However, reading the book first, the movie took out half of
her foster homes (they showed 3 yrs vs the 6 yrs she was in) and she met the boy eariler
in the movie than in the book. :-( I was disappointed and bored with the movie. Now I
did see the 1st HP movie before reading the book, and even though I see the changes,
for the most part, I think CC caught the essesance of the book. I did read COS before
seeing the movie though, and the changes to the movie did not bother me (well, maybe
some minor things did). I am excited about POA though. I think this one will be more
true to the book, but also add some fun to it too (like Draco's visual treatment of Harry,
and the singing choir). I am real excited about the 4th film though. Since they are
filming that shortly after wrap up of POA, I hope the 4th one comes out quickly after
the 3rd film. I have to say reading all 5 books a couple of times (and I am sure again
over and over between each film), the 4th book is still my favorite book of them all,
even though the 5th answer a lot of questions.
  Happy New Year!!!

  Kimberly
